Foreign Trade Zone

Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) help companies to remain competitive with oversees businesses and keep jobs in the United States. The FTZ program was created by the U.S. government to facilitate international trade and increase the global competitiveness of U.S. based companies. Many of Brevard County's transportation hubs are part of FTZ 136, which enables qualified businesses to defer or eliminate U.S. Customs' duties on imported goods.

For businesses involved in, or gearing up for, international trade, Port Canaveral's multimodal cargo transportation capabilities, processing facilities, and affordable land, leasing, and warehousing offer great benefits. These benefits are amplified by the fact that they lie within a foreign trade zone.

Encompassing more than 4,000 acres, FTZ 136 is among the largest foreign trade zones in the country. Years of dedicated planning and development by business and community leaders have created one of the world’s most comprehensive import/export resources here in Brevard County, Florida.

Potential benefits of a FTZ include:

  • No Duty on Domestic Content or Value Added
  • Duty-Free Storage
  • No Duty on Re-Exports and Sales to the U.S. Military or NASA
  • Relief From Inverted Tariffs
  • No Duty on Waste and Scrap
  • No Duty on Rejected or Defective Parts
  • Reduced Processing Time and Fees
  • Reduced Transit Time
